Information about Andy's joint campaign with Unison on hospital parking charges is available here

As Rugby's MP from 1997 to 2005, Andy King was proud to lead a number of successful local campaigns:

  • Andy defended our environment by leading the successful campaign with Labour colleagues to have Rugby's air quality monitored and emissions from Rugby Cement properly filtered.
  • Andy was successful in his battle to protect the world-renowned Ryton Organic Gardens from the threat of genetically modified farming nearby.
  • Andy was proud to help save our beautiful countryside heritage from the threat of a new international airport.
  • Andy successfully championed new legislation to ensure that water companies adopt and maintain private sewers. This has benefited thousands of households in Rugby constituency and millions nationally.

Andy fights for better local services:

  • Andy was proud to play a leading role in the successful campaign to save Rugby's St Cross Hospital. He was also delighted subsequently to win extra services and expansion for St Cross, such as the new orthopaedic unit. Rugby residents can now receive the majority of their NHS treatments and advice locally.
  • Andy fought for the new Rugby campus of Warwickshire College to be built in Brownsover.

Andy fights for better local transport infrastructure:

  • Lives have been saved thanks to the lower speed limit on the A45 and the new roundabout at Ryton that Andy fought for.
  • Andy secured the funding to ensure that Rugby's new Western Relief Road will ease congestion right across the town -- and not just push it onto Cawston.
  • Andy's battle for a new Rugby railway station was also successful.
